Background

Health Literacy refers to the ability of individuals to obtain health care information, to understand and evaluate this information and to employ it in manner conducive to health enhancement. Owing to the increasingly complex scientific, social, cultural and economic factors and knowledge, the demands placed on the competence of those users of the health services are steadily growing.

Objectives

The main aim within the framework of our Key Research Area on health literacy is the identification of essential factors for health literacy, and on this basis to develop and implement constructive working concepts.
